1. Keys
Keys retained by Walkies with Gemma will be kept securely and will only be marked with the name of your pet.
2. Dog safety, security and health
All dogs must wear a collar and tag with the telephone number of the owner engraved upon it.
Dog must be in a secure location prior to collection. Loose in a garden does not constitute this.
All dogs must be provided with a well-fitting collar / harness. Walkies with Gemma is not held liable for any injury or any damage caused or incurred by the Pet Owner's dog escaping due to an ill-fitting or faulty collar / harness. Walkies with Gemma will not accept liability for loss or damage to trackers, dog tags, etc.
Walkies with Gemma will not confirm any booking until there has been a consultation with the Pet Owner who must disclose any behavioural or medical condition that may make their dog unsuitable for group walks. This would include, but is not limited to, antisocial behaviour, aggression, possessive behaviour, lack of training and conditions such as incontinence, chronic vomiting or travel / mobility problems.
Walkies with Gemma will not walk a dog if it is in season, from first signs to 10 days after season has ended.
Walkies with Gemma must be informed if your dog does or has ever used a muzzle and this should be made available for use at our discretion.
Although we endeavour to ensure the safety of all dogs, letting dogs walk off the lead carries a risk therefore we will only do this with your written permission.
Walkies with Gemma will not be liable for any vet fees with regards to a pre-existing condition.
If any emergency arises, Walkies with Gemma will endeavour to contact you as soon as possible. If we are unable to contact you or your emergency contact we will go ahead and handle any emergency situation accordingly.
The Pet Owner is to have a back-up person / dog walker that can look after your dog/s in case of unforeseen circumstances which will mean Walkies with Gemma cannot attend.
Walkies with Gemma reserve the right to cancel or refuse service due to safety concerns, inappropriate or uncomfortable behaviour.
The Pet Owner accepts full liability for any loss or damage caused by their dog whilst being walked.
The Pet Owner also accepts full liability for loss or damage to their dog’s property which includes collars, harnesses, trackers and ID tags.
The Pet Owner is financially responsible for any loss or damage to property made by the dog.
We walk a maximum of six dogs to ensure a safe and enjoyable walk for all dogs in our care and ensure we walk temperamentally as well as geographically suitable dogs together.
In extreme weather conditions (e.g. very hot weather or heavy snow) walks may be shorter to ensure the comfort and safety of the dogs. This will be at the discretion of Walkies with Gemma.
The Pet Owner must inform Walkies with Gemma if their dog contracts any infectious condition (e.g. kennel cough, conjunctivitis). Any dog with an infectious condition will not be walked until cleared to do so by a vet.
Whilst all attempts to ensure the dog is returned as clean as possible, no guarantees can be made. Towels should be provided if you wish your dog to be wiped down following the walk especially in adverse weather.
3. Cat safety, security and health
Walkies with Gemma will act for the Pet Owner in your absence if we are unable to contact you.
Walkies with Gemma recognises that cats are independent creatures and as such are often left to
come in and out freely. Unfortunately, accidents do happen and as such Walkies with Gemma cannot be held responsible for the safety of any cat that is allowed to come in and out.
If cats need to be brought in, i.e. do not have a cat flap but are let out anyway, Walkies with Gemma will do our very best to notify the Pet Owner and ensure we have seen them, and will wait a reasonable amount of time, carry out duties and if the cat has not turned up we will have to leave.
Walkies with Gemma will endeavour to ensure the cat is in but we cannot guarantee it.
It is a condition precedent to liability that the property owner has arranged with their household insurer to extend their policy to cover losses incurred whilst there is a pet sitter present.
It is a condition precedent to liability that all locks, security and protective measures are put in operation whenever the property is left unattended or overnight, whether or not the pet sitter is present.
4. Permissions
The Pet Owner will be deemed to have accepted Walkies with Gemma terms and conditions (as laid out here) on booking of services.
The Pet Owner gives Walkies with Gemma permission to enter their property to carry out the booked service at the arranged date and time.
We make every effort to contact the Pet Owner in the event of an emergency. A nominated vet’s details will also be recorded, and they will be contacted if we are unable to communicate with the service user or their representative. Please note that in an emergency we will use any nearest vet. We recommend the Pet Owner provide us with a contact number of a trusted third party should we be unable to make contact. However, we reserve the right to make decisions regarding your pet's health provided it is at all times acting in the best interests of the pet and on the advice of a veterinary surgeon.
The Pet Owner is responsible for payment of any veterinary fees incurred by Walkies with Gemma.
5. Insurance
Walkies with Gemma are insured for the safe care and transport of your animal. Animals are fully insured to travel. Unless you state otherwise, these terms and conditions assume that you, the Pet Owner, have given permission for this.
Walkies with Gemma have comprehensive insurance covering public liability, vet fees and loss or straying, however we advise all clients to have their pets insured and reserve the right to refuse a booking for any animal who is not insured.
It is a condition precedent to liability that all locks, security and protective measures are put in operation whenever the property is left unattended or overnight, whether or not Walkies with Gemma is present.
